Nau mai, haere mai to Wellington, New Zealand.
Named the coolest little capital in the world by Lonely Planet, Wellington is also the southernmost capital city in the world.
Wellington is a compact city, with lots to do and see within walking distance from the city centre. Some of our most scenic spots are within easy reach for visitors, like our waterfront promenade, Oriental Bay beach, the Botanic Gardens, or the vibrant Cuba Street quarter.
The weather is often mild and sunny, but strong winds through Cook Strait give the city the nickname Windy Wellington.
Here are some of our favourite things to see and do:
- Zealandia: See rare native animals, like Tuataras and Kakas in this ecosanctuary.
- Te Papa: New Zealand’s national museum with something for everyone.
- Cable car: The historic cable car takes you on a short ride to the top of the Botanic Gardens.
- Weta Studios: Home to our film industry, where Lord of the Rings, the Hobbit movies and many other movies were made.
