Jim Nicolson is the Ministry of Health’s Manager, Investing in Healthy Ageing, in the Ministry’s Strategy and Policy Business Unit. He heads the Ministry’s policy work in relation to the health of older people and has been in this role for three years.
Other than some time served in the natural resource sector, Jim has a long history in public health and social sector policy and operational roles, primarily around services that support people with disabilities and older people. He has also worked closely with the NGO sector to improve the ways in which government agencies work with NGOs to collectively address health and social needs.
Over the past 18 months Jim and his team, along with a cast of thousands, have been heavily engaged in developing a new strategy to ensure the health and social sectors are able to meet the future health and support needs of NZ’s growing older population. He regards the opportunity to do this as a privilege.
